  1. After looking through your video, it does quite an effective job at representing your intended genre.

The switch between the depressed, black and white to the happier, in colour, looking back on memories shots help get the melancholic nature of the song across and fits in well the isolated imagery from the black and white (footprints in the sand, walking alone across a beach with the tide, possibly unintentionally representing her internal struggle). While it has this nice imagery, the red balloon element and it's meaning is a little less clear. As while it gets summed up at the end as possibly suggesting letting go of her past with the boy when she lets it fly off, there's nothing to link it with the flashbacks. If the boy character was wearing red then we could link it to him and strengthens the justification for using it also adding even more emotional weight to the narrative, making the video that little bit more effective.

In terms of filming, its quite nicely composed with, as mentioned before, the black and white scenes on the beach being my particular favourite. As it helps convey this really lonely nature to the character which I guess is the general idea of indie pop. (Never listened to it much myself) The transition and spacing between the flashbacks and black and white is done well with none really being too disjointing or too uneven with one more then the other. There is a few issues with the flashbacks as with differences in light level, brightness etc. but they are merely nitpicking issues as don't detract from the overall project.

Overall, it is a nice looking video which for the most part does a good job at getting its themes across. Only a couple of small issues are present like the unclear use of the red balloon which could have been pushed further and minor editing and pacing issues between flashbacks and narrative as narrative could have included a few more subtle messages to help link it more clearly to the overall message.

So if possible, please share this comment to the other group members blogs so can all see if they wish. Good luck with your evaluation pieces.
