Rough Copy

This is the rough copy of our music video for the song 'Lovers Eyes', we have pratically finished all the editing we just need to focus the last few days of the deadline on the ending of the music video and adding any finishing touches, we are also going to possibly slow down a few of the shots on the beach so our narritive for the music video becomes clearer, at the moment some of the shots are short with a quick pase, if we slow the pace down (not adding a longer time frame) the narrative for the music video will be clearer to our audience, as at the moment they don't all fit the melancholy atmosphere we want them to have.

Our idea of having the black and white clips, contrasted with the ones in colour works really well you can see the change in atmosphere and time straight away, we have added an edit to footage in colour to make it have more of a home video, relaxed feel to it. The effect has given the footage a more of a hazed colour to the clips, something we referenced to in our research. So far I am very pleased with the music video, and I am looking forward to seeing the final product.

Extra Research

I decided in my free time that I would again have a look at album covers linking to the 'Indie Pop' genre. I thought that I would choose an artist that I have already focused some research on their music videos and album art to see if our newly created ideas are fitting in with the typical codes and convenctions.

Lana Del Rey has created a new album cover of her 'The Paraside Edition' to her album Born To Die. Even though the album art is different to the origian album cover, the placement of the typeography and the artist herself are all positioned in the exactly the same way. Cleaverly creating a link to the previous album for the audience, the new image still uses the typical nature theme, which we have also included in our ideas for the album cover (the beach), even though the image is in the background and Lana herself is the main image it still creates an effective back setting, following the convenctions of the Indie Pop genre. Even though the text on the album cover is extremly large and eye catching becoming a main focus of the album cover, we have decided not to follow this. Due to the composition of our image for our album cover it would work best to fit the album and artist name in the sky letting the full image take main focus for the audience. As we are trying to create an iconic look for the artist with the balloon, we will be able to create a link with the balloon to the artist, even without the name taking centre stage.

I feel that so far are ideas are along the right track, we are following the Indie Pop genre and not deviating away from it. Even though we are creating our own unique individual style it will still be recgonisable to the genre. We will continue are reasearch on digipaks, which we develop our ideas further. As the new edition and the original edition of the Lana Del Rey's album cover do have link together this has led us on to remember that the images used in our digipak and advert will also have to have a strong link, to the music video and our ideas. We should not add newly formed ideas that don't have a strong connection to our music video, as they will not look like a realistic album cover, advert and digipak. We already have some ideas of images that will be used in them all which we have previously blogged about, again we will be editing and discussing these ideas as soon as our editing process is complete.

Album Ideas

The two images above are a few of our main ideas for the front of our album cover, as you can see from both ideas the image is the same as is the typeography. We have decided that the text on the ideas will be the one that we use when creating the whole digipak. In the first idea the text is large, which can be seen as a little overpowering from the audience prehaps taking the much needed attention away from the album art. The brightness of the image has also be toned down a little, we wanted to experiment with different contrasts and brightness to see what would look most effective and realistic for our target audience. We then decided to do another idea the second image, which you can see the text is smaller and fits well in the sky, the text does not draw away the attention of the audience but at the same time will make them look at the text to see who the album is created by. We learned about the 'Z' which is something an audience do, firsty looking at the top of the album, then in a diagonal line after going straight to the bottom. We have incopriated this into the second image, making the text still a main focus but less prominant letting the audience focus on the image used (linking to the lovers eyes music video.) The image is also brighter than the first image, it does make the album cover seem more eye catching and the surrounding and features of the shot stand out more. We will be looking at other ideas for our album cover, and developing our thoughts.

Filming

We managed to get our filming done on Monday, we are now in the process of putting together the final bits of footage to our beach shots and practicing with different types of effects we can use of the clips we've just shot to make them look more effective. We have also been trying out lots of different places to out our artist name and album cover on our front cover on the album track. I think having the name of the artist in the sky is the most effective place as the audience will straight away view it, and the move on to looking at the image used. We have not fully decided on the position of the album cover yet, but we will focus on this after we have finished our editing.

We have also been listening a lot to the song when editing to make sure certain clips are in the right place for the pace of the music, however this has been difficult as we have lots of short shots to show the movment of the female alone on the beach, but also in the coloured shots. We wanted to create an up tempo feel to the music video when the song picks up its pace, so we have today moved around some clips to fit with this. We are on track with the editing process, and are happy with the project we have created so far.

Tomorrow I will be uploading a few ideas that as a group we have made on the album front and back cover with text, and will alos be uploading my own. So each individual in the group can also express their own ideas, which we will be able to build and work on to create our finishing product.

Extra Filming

Due to the weather being a bit dull recently we still have not been able to create our scenes with the boy for our music video. We have checked the weather forecast for tomorrow and no snow or rain is due to fall. We are going to take full advantage of this and get the last shots of our filming done with Catherine Kirk and Ryan Hawkins. Hopefully after tomorrow we will be able to get most of putting the editing together finished, and then we will be able to focus on getting the colour of the red balloon perfect against the black and white. #

Below is the call sheet for tomorrow.

Time to Meet
9:20 am.

Location to meet
Sixth Form Common Room

Group
Ellie Snowdon, Sarah Hewitt, Kelly Senior and Catherine Kirk.

Characters
Catherine Kirk, playing the female in the music video and Ryan Hawkins playing the male lover.
Props We dont need any probs for these scenes of footage.

Special instructions
Come prepeared even though the weather is supposed to be a little sunny, bring warm clothes just in case the actors have to stand around for a while. Toilets are nearby.

Front Cover

The image below is an idea for the front cover of our album, we have carried on with the theme that we have shown throughout our project. We have continued to use the beach location as it links back to the natural imagery and with the setting we used in our music video, also having the red balloons in the front cover becomes a really iconic symbol which an audience will be able to link the music video for the song and the album cover together. Even though only one balloon was present in our music video, we thought that we should have the front cover with the female with two balloons to symbolise love of two people and that you are never alone. The image is eyecatching and a really sets a powerful statement, it will completly stand out to the audience and will become an iconic symbol to our artist.

Mumford and Sons

On Tuesday night we saw Mumford and Sons, which is the band we are using in our cover song. Going to see the band let us see how the band of the same genre we are basing our music video on presents themeselves on stage. The arena was set up with a carnival/festival theme, and the lighting anf probs all fited in with the Indie Pop genre, the band used outdoor lights, and the colours of the backdrops were natural. Going to the concert has let us devleop our ideas, and go into a lot more depth of how we want our own singer to be percieved. We have realised from the concert that we are on the right track with our ideas we are developing for our magazine advert and digipak. From the images below you can see that the light was a very important aspect of their stage and set up, this is something that we have been trying to also portray in our music video we have been changing the contrast and brightness of the black and white to give it a different atmosphere.

Ideas

This is one of the first ideas for the back of our album cover, this picture featured is one that we took on the day of shooting our footage but we have edited it to make it look more professional, and to add some touches to the colour. We again want the album cover to be simple but eye catching, the album name and a few of the songs stand out against the image used, to picture does not differ away from the importance of the text, which is something that we have been carefully trying to do. We dont want our images to overpower the text, as the name and artist of the album is what the audience we tend to remember most. This is only our first idea, but I do think once we have adapted it further it will become a very iconic back for our album cover, our front cover will also link in with the image used here.

Any feedback on our first idea, and its presentation would be great.

Artist Name

We have been thinking about artist names in our group over the weekend, and we looked at multiple different fonts and narrowd it down to a few of our favourites and ones that we think would fit into our chosen genre. We decided on the name 'Elliot Guy', we had many names to pick from but this one stood out to us the most, its a unique name and no other artists have a similar name to this. We wanted a name that was catchy and easy to remeber, the name isn't very long which means it won't take up a lot of space on the album cover which is something we took into concideration, we want the name to stand out but not to distract away from the album art.

This is our selection of fonts, we have not yet decided which one we will use as our font style, but we are happy with the three different fonts that we managed to narrow it down to. The last font is my favourite, it looks extremly sophisticated and gives it a smart and unique edge to it. Again fitting in with us wanting a font that was simple but iconic, I think this font would be the most eye catching to use, and will be recognisable for future albums and featured articles/adverts.
